Crazy over Purple

 Friday, June 3, 2011

A long overdue post. We went to Narita san temple sometime in April. It sure is sunny but still cold that's why out little girl is wearing her purple Jacket (maching her purple crocs). There are a lot of shops and things to be seen before finally arriving at the temple so we took our time taking photos around.

That's takoyaki being prepared, hubby making sure that our little girl sees how it is made.

Narita san temple has the usual pagoda feature temples here are known for. Against the blue sky, surely was lovely day to take photos!

New TV, New Printer

 Thursday, May 26, 2011

We finally got a digital TV. Yes you read it right, we've been using an Analog for the past years and they'd be phased out soon...so we got this digital TV last week. According to wiki Japan is running an intense nationwide campaign announcing the planned switchover to digital terrestrial and satellite television on Sunday, July 24, 2011. Quite a bit late for our high-teh country, right? Well, we're not the latest, some countries would take at least the year 2030. :D

Another gadget at home that we'd like to switch to would be our old printer to a new one. Not that we need one of those really heavyduty printers but just one that I can use to print the kids' photos. I've accumulated them but have stored them away but not printed. Our current printer is only used for documents and I've tried printing a photo once but the quality is not good enough.

Do you have recommendations for the best printers out there? What are the things to consider when buying printers? I've read about LED printers and I wonder how is it different. I'd definitely like to know. Thanks in advance!

Rainbow

Well almost. We only lack indigo for the sprinkles and the blues are not on the dark tones. :) We celebrated Valentine's day this year with lots of color. :) It is a tradition for women to express love and affection to men by giving them chocolates on February 14. Men reciprocate this a month after, March 14 by  giving women chocolates or any token.

Mini chocolate sponge cakes ;)

The girls helped in sprinkling colored candies and had lots of fun!

Hanabi-taikai (Fireworks display)

 Friday, April 15, 2011

In August, there's the fireworks display festival that we watch with the kids. This is a tradition wherein we dress up in yukatas.
Yukatas are informal, unlined kimono made of cotton and worn with a narrow sash (obi). It is usually worn in summer. Unlike ceremonial kimono, a yukata is casual and comfortable to wear. It can be worn next to the skin. Wooden clogs (geta) are usually worn without Japanese socks (tabi) when wearing a yukata. Today many people wear yukata at summer festivals (matsuri), fireworks displays (hanabi-taikai), and the Bon Festival Dance (bon-odori).You can see us wearing slippers. :D

Pink is a favorite of the kids, no doubt. So most of the time they wore pink for last year's Hanabi, papa and I wore blue.

Happy Pink Friday!

Pink girls

 Saturday, April 9, 2011

That pinks are made for girls hold true to my two princesses. Pink jackets, pink bag, even pink shoes.

As per wiki: In Western culture, the practice of assigning pink to an individual gender began in the 1920s or earlier. From then until the 1940s, pink was considered appropriate for boys because being related to red it was the more masculine and decided color, while blue was considered appropriate for girls because it was the more delicate and dainty color, or related to the Virgin Mary. Since the 1940s, the societal norm was inverted; pink became considered appropriate for girls and blue appropriate for boys, a practice that has continued into the 21st century.

Omedetou...

 Thursday, March 31, 2011

Our little girl turned 3 last November...we had a simple celebration at home but we also celebrated her day at Sylvanian Morino Kitchen. She's really grown and it's customary that kids at age 4 attend kindergarten...she'll be four this year so she's counted in as qualified.

There was an interview of sorts before  one can be admitted in School...kids would be asked a few questions to see how their capabilities...good thing our little girl did well. Congratulations Ayana-chan!

Then last week we took her to a one-day visit at the kindergarten and she enjoyed it there. She was trying on drawing, writing and was very engaged with all the activities.

My little girl's Seifuku, bag and hats from school....a few weeks to go and she'll be going to school. My baby has surely grown bigger...Congratulations for moving up! Mommy, Daddy, Oneechan and Obaachan are proud of you!  :)

It's very seldom to snow on this part of Japan...so we enjoy it even for a fleeting moment when it comes. This is my younger daughter getting a feel of the snow from the car window last week.

That's her looking out and wanting for the snow to thicken, viewing from the terrace.
