white day

White day in Japan..

In Japan, Valentine's Day is observed by members of the female gender who present chocolate gifts (either store-bought or handmade), usually to a member of the male gender, as an expression of love. The handmade chocolate is usually preferred by the receiver, because it is a sign that the receiving male is the girl's "only one". On White Day, the converse happens: males who received a "honmei-choco" [chocolate of love] or "Giri-choco" [chocolate of courtesy] on Valentine's Day are expected to return the favor by giving gifts, usually more expensive. Traditionally, popular White Day gifts are cookies, sugar candies, white chocolate, marshmallows as well as jewelries, lingerie, and stuffed animals. Sometimes the term sanbai gaeshi (literally, "thrice the return") is used to describe the generally recited rule that the return gift should be two to three times the cost of the Valentine's gift

Your baby at 4 months

Your baby is probably staying awake more during the day and not eating as often. He may be smiling at people. He may cry when he is hungry, needs a change, is sick or uncomfortable, or just because he is upset about something. He also may have learned how to cry to get attention, and he may now cry real tears.

Your baby is learning about his world
through what he sees, hears, and feels.

What is it like to be 4 months old?

How I grow

  • I turn my head in all directions.
  • I lift my head forward when I'm on my back and grab my feet with my hands.
  • I sit up for about 15 minutes with my head and back straight if you support my body.
  • I prefer sitting instead of lying down. It's more interesting.
  • I roll from my back to my side, but sometimes, I get my hand caught under my stomach.
  • I stretch my legs out straight when I'm on my back or my stomach.
  • I can reach for and grab a toy if it is close enough.
  • I put things in my mouth.
  • I splash and kick with my hands and feet in the bath.

How I Talk

  • I babble and imitate sounds like coughing and clicking my tongue for long periods of time.
  • I coo, grin, or squeal with joy when you talk to me.

How I respond

  • I love to see myself in the mirror.
  • I'm fascinated with my hands.
  • I like some people and am shy or scared of others.
  • I may have one favorite toy or blanket.

How I Understand

  • I can remember things for about 5 seconds.
  • I know if something is near or far.
  • I'm aware of depth and distance.

How I Feel

  • I get excited when I'm having fun. Everything is a game to me.
  • I cry and get upset when you stop paying attention to me or take a toy away.

To help your baby learn

  • Respond promptly to your baby's crying. Don't worry about spoiling him. Answering his needs makes him feel safe, loved and worthwhile, and teaches him to trust. Developing trust is the beginning of self-discipline and is necessary for becoming a well adjusted, caring human being.
  • Play music and let your baby listen to you hum or sing along. Rock to the rhythm of the music.
  • Continue talking to your baby about daily routines. Name the things he sees around him.
  • Look at picture books of familiar objects and animals, pointing at and naming things as you turn the pages. Make your own picture book by cutting out pictures from magazines or photographs. Give your baby a soft cuddly toy to hold. He may begin to have one favorite toy or blanket to help him feel secure.
  • Hold your baby up to a mirror, and talk to him about all the things he can see. Most babies like to look at themselves in the mirror. This helps them learn about themselves.
  • Give your baby a chance to practice reaching for and holding things that interest him. This helps your baby feel capable and develops his coordination.
